About this episode
Laila Gohar is a world-class food artist who created a career that didn’t exist before. Born in Egypt and now based in New York, she works with food as her creative medium, crafting installations that blur the boundaries between art, design, and dining. Her work has been exhibited in museums and galleries around the world, and she has become a go-to partner for leading fashion, design, gastronomic, and luxury brands. Her frequent collaborators include Prada, Hermès, Comme des Garçons, Simone Rocha, and Sotheby’s. In 2022, Laila launched Gohar World with her sister Nadia, a surrealist homeware label produced in family-run ateliers. That same year, she designed Sobremesa, a homeware collection for the Danish design company Hay, and a capsule collection for Byredo. Alongside her artistic practice, Laila writes the How To Host It column for the Financial Times HTSI , reflecting on hospitality, aesthetics, and culture.
